First person to guess what vehicle it was on wins Oppo points. I’ll give hints!
Jasmits got it. It was a brand new limited 4runner. The man said he bought it for $100 ten years ago and has since been offered $15,000 as recently as last year

Lately, I’ve been collecting a coworker from Delaware on my way to work, so I’ve seen tons.
That said, it’ll be Stormtrooper looking, so I say black or white Dodge Charger.

This was spotted in the 10 mile stretch of I-59 that goes through Georgia between Alabama and Tennessee and no to that car. It wasn’t a Dodge.

Edge?
I’m literally just running through my mental checklist of everything I’ve seen with black plates. They’re often FCA in my experience.

F-Pace. Please say F-Pace. I’ve seen a total of two F-Paces since they came out, and it disheartens me as a Jag fan.

So there is literally no point to them other than the look different And the cost more...?
All Nova Scotia plates look the same...our antique plates even look almost the same other than the words Antuque car the a missing logo. We have fire department and search and rescue volunteer plates that gave different colourings, so those are probably the most different. Even the special environmental conservation plates are very similar, other than a pic of the creature being mentioned for habitat conservation - though the money for those goes to environmental charities.

Here’s a sight where people offer them for sale so you can see what they bring. DE Tags
The lower the number the more they fetch. I think I recall #7 fetching around $200k some years ago. I used to work on the guys cars at the local Benz dealer...he was an asshole. The governor gets tag #1, #2 goes to the Lt. Governor and #3 goes to secretary of state. You used to have to get them from a source outside DMV, but they have since taken over and anyone with $100 and a 6 digit number that starts with 4 or under (IIRC) can now get them. The DMV acquired stainless tags now have reflective stickers on the numbers but you can remove the stickers and polish them which is why I stick with my old source. You can even get personalized plates in porcelain, which looks phony since the idea is them being antique designs. It used to have to be 5 digits only and you could get a black and white porcelain or a black and stainless. I have a preference for the stainless tag as it looks nicer IMO. It also says Delaware where the porcelain just says Del. and has a diamond after the first 2 numbers. I’ve had mine for 20 and 17 years and gave my 3rd to my parents when I only had 2 cars so my current 3rd beater is the ugly blue/gold since DMV didn’t have any 5 digit registrations when I tagged it. You can go in any time and check if any 5 digits go back into rotation, but 4 and under get scooped by the DMV employees before us regular folk can get a hold of them.
They are more common these days, especially since DMV started selling them. 4 digits and under are the ones that draw money, unless someone really wants the 5 digits you have. You see someone with 3 digits and they either inherited it or paid sometimes more than the car it’s on is worth...I frequently see a K car with a 3 digit rolling around outside Wilmington. The tag is an old faded blue/gold from when they used to rivet the numbers on.
A handful of years ago they switched plate makers from a local maker to a Canadian company. Residents were up in arms over the loss of local jobs and the fucked up font that looked off. They have since fixed the font.
Here’s the one I’ve had since 96 on my old E46. That same tag is currently on my wife’s E90. I prefer them because they look nice, especially on silver, black and white cars. I don’t care about the status associated...which means much less now than it did 20 years ago.
TL;DR, they aren’t as special anymore unless they are low numbers. 4 digits and under are $ and you are baller if you have 4-99.
